MCA Approved Engine Course (AEC)

The MCA Approved Engine Course (AEC) is aimed at giving a wide and general appeciation of basic diesel mechanics and electrics.

The course is the first level qualification for the MCA engineering officer Training scheme. It is seen as the first rung of the engineering ladder for those with no formal marine engineering experience and is an ideal introduction for those who wish to improve and enhance their employment prospects in the vaious aspects of the marine industry.eg;

This course can also be undertaken by any crew member, deck, stewards and chefs who wish to advance their employment prospects in this extremely competetive market place by being able to fill the assistant Engineer position, or who simply wish to develop their Engineering knowledge.

The  Four day course is Instructed by an experienced Engineer who is thoroughly proffesional, Conscientious and uncompromising in his approach to engineering and safety responsibilities.

The role of air in the combustion process

All Equipment to complete the course will be provided.

A Course Completion Certificate will be awarded provided the Student has attended for the full 4 days.

STCW 95 Basic Training (MCA Approved) Inc 2010 Manila Amendments

There are 5 basic Courses which form the backbone of the STCW95 (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) Qualification. These are listed below and can be completed as individual modules or as a block. There is an additional module, "Proficiency in Security Awareness" if you intend to work onboard a vessel covered by ISPS code such as a Superyacht, Cruisie Ship or Merchant vessel over 500GRT.

1 Day Personal Survival Techniques £175.00

This is a one day course containing practical and theory sections including launching and entering a life rafts in a designated pool. Included are actions to be taken by persons for self protection in emergency situations, survival at sea and deployment of safety equipment.It forms part of the mandatory basic training for all seafaring personnel.

Certification is by continuous assessment, practical demonstration, questions and answers during the course.

1 Day Elementary First Aid £140.00

This is a one day class room based course and forms part of the mandatory basic training for all personnel assigned designated emergency duties.

The course includes the use of manikins for interactive Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and knowledge of
A.E.D. automatic external defibrillators.
Certification is by continuous assessment and a practical assessment of skills and knowledge during the course.

1 Day Personal Social Responsibilities £140.00

This is a 1 day classroom based course and forms part of the mandatory basic training for all personnel assigned safety or pollution prevention duties.
It covers accident prevention, employment on board and working environment on board ship.

Certification is by continuous assessment, questions and answers during the course.

2 Day Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting £525.00

This is a 2 day course containing practical and theory sections including simulations and fire fighting exercises in a multi story steel simulator.
It forms part of the mandatory basic training for all personnel assigned safety duties.
Certification is by continuous assessment, questions and answers during the course.

1 Day Proficiency In Security Awareness

Proficiency in Security Awareness is a course offering new and experienced Crew  members the basic information required to carry out security duties onboard and help you to have a heightened Securiry awareness. The international ship and port security  (ISPS) code outlines the need for Security and Vigilance onboard merchant vessels of all sizes,. This course aims to ensure you can;
Report a Security incident, Including a Piracy ot Armed Robbery threat or attack

Know the Procedures to follow when they recognise a Security Threat
Take part in Security-Related emergency and contingency prodedures.

This course is free if booking all 5 parts of the STCW95 course together or the cost is £140.00 if being taken as a single element.

STCW95 Refresher Training Courses

New rules that came into effect following the Manila conference in 2010 require several STCW certificates to be updates every 5 years. In broad terms these rules dont take effect until 1st January 2017 and so if you hold the STCW95 Basic Training qualification and they are over 5 years old on 1st January 2017 they will no longer be valid and you will be working illegally.
