MCA Master 200
The MCA Master 200 qualification (more formally - Master code vessels less than 200gt / OOW 500gt) is seen by many RYA Yachtmasters as the next significant step in the advancement of their professional maritime careers.
The Master 200 qualification enables the holder to captain any vessel less than 200 gross register tonnes (gt). This includes work-boats, small tugs and wind-farm vessels. It is also the entry point for those wising to develop their career through higher certificates - 500gt, 3000gt.
The qualification is gained after successful completion of an oral examination conducted by an MCA examiner. The content of the exam builds upon the knowledge already gained through the RYA Yachtmaster programme, but also tests on subjects ranging from maritime business and law, pollution control, salvage, emergencies, bridge procedures, M notices, stability etc
