MCA Approved Engine Course Part 2


The MCA Approved Engine Course Part 2 is the second half to the AEC qualification. The course is the second level qualification for the MCA engineering officer Training scheme. 

 

It is a 35 hour, 5 day course and is designed to follow on from the AEC 1, and include tuition about the engineering systems required to support the power plant and operation of smaller vessels operating in limited areas.

  

Delivery of the content is split into both classroom activities and practical application. The basic operation of engineering systems such as electrical supplies, hydraulic systems, care of fresh water, refrigeration, planned maintenance systems and safe engineering working practices.


The objective is to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills required to undertake duties as an Engineer on board restricted power vessels as laid down in the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) AEC 2 syllabus.

 The course will cover:  

  • Components and their arrangement in a compression type refrigerant plant
  • Basic fault finding 
  • Legislative and management requirements within engineering operations
  • Maintenance systems onboard 
  • Safe systems of work within an engineering environment 
  • Electrical distribution system onboard
  • Maintain basic hydraulic systems
  • Practical skills to undertake basic maintenance 
  • Fresh water & sewage systems onboard 

All equipment to complete the course will be provided.

A Course Completion Certificate will be awarded providing the student attends all 5 days of the course.
